The TL1 language comprises of plain ASCII message sets for communicating and peforming actions with the TL1 resources.
Telcordia standardized these messages by specifying rules for syntax, structure, and semantics of TL1 messages
(GR-831). Any TL1 message should adhere to these specifications so that they all speak a common TL1 language.
3.1 TL1 Message Types
There are four types of TL1 messages, namely input message, acknowledgment, response and autonomous messages
TL1 Input Messages
These messages are also called as
commands. They are used to operate on the NEs. Input messages can be sent
either by the OSS via a GUI or by an operator via a command line interface.
TL1 Response Messages
A response message is sent from the NE to the OSS indicating the status of an input message
TL1 Acknowledgment Messages
These are brief messages from the NE to OSS acknowledging the receipt of a TL1 command. Acknowledgment is issued if the normal response to a message will be delayed by more than two seconds.
TL1 Autonomous Messages
These are asynchronous messages sent by the NEs to OSS. These are typically triggered by events or alarmed condition on the NE. Autonomous messages are also used to report periodic PM data etc
